Albanian exports recorded a slight increase during February. According to INSTAT data, the value of exported goods reached around 30.9 billion lek, or 2.8% more than a year earlier.

Meanwhile, imports continue to remain significantly higher. In February, they reached 68 billion lek, with a modest increase of 0.8% compared to the same period last year.

As a result, the trade deficit, the difference between imports and exports, remained deep at around 37.1 billion lek, although slightly lower compared to a year earlier.

The increase in exports was mainly driven by minerals, fuels and electricity, as well as machinery and equipment. On the other hand, exports of food, textiles and construction materials declined.

Regarding imports, growth was driven mainly by machinery and equipment, while imports of energy and construction materials had a negative impact on the total.

The European Union remains Albania's main trading partner, accounting for over 56% of total trade. Export growth has been oriented towards Kosovo and Germany, while traditional markets such as Italy and Spain have recorded declines.

On the import side, the largest increase comes from China with nearly 54 percent and Kosovo with about 37 percent, while supplies have shrunk from Turkey and Italy.
