A system without opposition, Albania in the deepest crisis in 35 years

Sunday’s partial elections in five municipalities clearly demonstrated that citizens have turned away from the political establishment. The low turnout was not simply a sign of apathy, but a strong indicator of the lack of trust in the electoral process and in the system of political representation in the country.
On the one hand, we have a consolidated power in the hands of an oligarchic and clientelistic structure, which uses every instrument of the state to maintain control. While on the other hand, there is a captured opposition, especially the DP, powerless and surrendered and which has lost its fundamental function of representing hope for change.
The leadership of the Democratic Party suffered a shameful defeat in these elections, not only due to the poor result, but also due to the lack of political awareness. There was no campaign, mobilization or responsibility. Independent candidates were left to their fate, without support, without structure and without strategy. This clearly shows that the DP no longer represents an alternative, neither as an idea nor as an organization.
Abandoned by tired democrats and divided by internal fever for power, this party is turning into a dysfunctional opposition.
The disintegration of the structures after the loss of the May 11 elections and the disappointment of the citizens were clearly reflected in the partial elections, turning the DP into a shadow of itself.
This situation is devastating not only for the opposition, but for the entire Albanian political system.
Albania is today in the deepest political crisis of 35 years of pluralism.
The government and the opposition no longer hide that they are on the same front, united to preserve power and obstruct justice.
In this grim reality, the real loser is not a party or a candidate, but the Albanian citizen, who no longer has anyone to trust or follow.
With a facade opposition, without content and serving as decoration, Rama's power continues unchecked, while corruption, clientelism and arbitrariness are deepening institutional degradation.
The elections were held without a real offer, without debate and without confrontation, leaving the citizen outside the decision-making process. The abandonment that the citizens made to the political class is a clear sign that they have positioned themselves against it.
This deep crisis of distrust towards the position and the opposition constitutes the most serious obstacle to the development of the country.
If this degradation continues, Albania risks entering a new phase of transition, more dangerous than that of the 1990s, where the citizens no longer trust any political force and where change becomes impossible.
Hope for a true political reformation is a necessity. The citizens are demanding change, but their indifference is not enough. As long as the SP and the DP easily maintain their already hardened roles, one in power and the other in formal opposition, the country cannot move forward.
Change will only happen when citizens elect honest, uncorrupted and visionary representatives, people who are not part of the worn-out establishment.
Only then will hope be restored that power can change and that Albania's European path of development can become a reality.
