"Unknown Albanians" and another story by Ben Blushi!

It is not the first time that Ben Blushi has narrated Albania differently. But this time, instead of a pen, he has used his eye. Not simply the eye of a detailed writer, but that of a silent traveler, who with a camera in his hand has captured the silence and the wandering of a people who often forget themselves.
The exhibition “Unknown Albanians” is not just a portrait gallery. It is an intimate mirror – a wordless narrative – that speaks louder than any essay. These simple Albanians, lost in the corners of the country, forgotten by time and politics, have no name in the history books, but they have a story on their faces. And this is precisely what Blushi has followed with his eye.
Why did a writer do this? Maybe because words were no longer enough for him. Maybe he felt that in a place where everyone talks, the silence of a portrait can have more meaning than a full page. Or because writers also need to tell with other means, when words are tired of politics, of everyday opinion, of the screen.
In his novels, Blushi has told of the dark sides of Albanian identity, of the conflict between religion, power and the individual. While here, with camera in hand, he seems to be trying to bring back an Albania that does not appear in the news, an Albania of depth, of weariness, of beauty that does not demand attention.
This exhibition is, in essence, a continuation of his narrative – a search for Albanians who do not occupy a place in political discourse, but who keep this country’s feet on the ground. And perhaps this is precisely what makes Blushi more than a writer – it makes him a narrator of reality, regardless of the medium he uses.
For me, as his reader but also a fan of his pen, this exhibition was like looking at the pages of an undiscovered novel: without words, but with the same feeling that every one of his books leaves behind – that Albania is a place that should not only be read or seen, but felt. And perhaps it is precisely this silent concern that pushes Ben Blushi not to stop telling.
You can find the Unknown Albanians every day at the COD center to see Ben Blushi’s “Silenceless Albania”.
