Archbishop of Albania, Anastasios Janullatos, passes away

Archbishop Anastasios Yanullatos passed away today after several weeks of hospitalization at the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens.

Archbishop Anastas Yanullatos was transferred on January 3 from Tirana to the "Evangelismos" hospital in Athens by a Greek Air Force plane.

The 95-year-old archbishop, who had been showing symptoms of the virus, was initially admitted to a private hospital in the capital on December 30.

However, his health condition deteriorated, which led to the decision to transfer him to Greece to receive specialized medical care.

The air transport was carried out with a C-27 aircraft of the Air Force, while at the Archbishop's side were a doctor and two members of the EKAV flying medical personnel team.

The Archbishop was admitted to Evangelismos Hospital, where a few days later his condition rapidly deteriorated and he was intubated.

However, his health was quite poor and after several weeks of hospitalization, the Archbishop of Albania, Anastasios Janullatos, passed away.

The Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, ANASTASI, rested in the Lord.

The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, with deep sorrow, announces the repose of the soul of the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and all Albania, His Beatitude Anastasios. The Archbishop passed away today, January 25, 2025, at 08:30 in the morning, at the age of 95, at the "Evangelismos" Hospital in Athens, as a result of the insufficient functioning of many organs.

Previously, he had been treated for several days at the "Hygeia" Hospital in Tirana.

We invite the Orthodox believers of the Church of Albania to pray for the repose of the soul of the deceased Chief Shepherd.

His Beatitude, Archbishop Anastasios, was the rebuilder and reviver of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, which he completely rebuilt from the ruins after the fall of the atheist regime.

With his divine vision and tireless work, he rebuilt church life from the foundations, built hundreds of churches, established educational and charitable institutions, and formed a new generation of clergy, offering an uninterrupted and sacrificial ministry for more than 33 years.
