Study/ Who ages faster women or men?

A man and a woman may be born in the same year, but that doesn't mean they're the same age, researchers say, in a recent study that finds one gender is more prone to ageing. . According to new findings, this age difference appears as early as the age of 20.
In a first-of-its-kind study, published in The Journals of Gerontology: Series A, scientists from the University of Jyväskylä compared the chronological age of thousands of volunteers, i.e. their actual years of life, with their biological age, ie. the state of the aging organization.
They used a series of tests that assess the aging of the body based on a few precise markers linked to DNA. The findings revealed that men age faster than women. In fact, the gap was especially wide in the 1950s, when men were biologically 4 years older on average than women of the same age.
The research looked at the biological age of 2,240 twins, who were divided into two groups according to their age. One group included volunteers aged 21-42, while the other aged 50-76. About 151 of the twin pairs studied were female and male, allowing the researchers to examine their genetics and lifestyle as they grew up.
This is probably because smoking rates have fallen among men. For example, the number of men who smoke in Finland has decreased from 37% in the 1970s to 17% today, while the prevalence has remained the same among women (about 15%).
However, the gap remained even after accounting for other factors, suggesting there is a genetic component to keeping women younger. Anna Kankaanpää, lead author of the study, said the rate of aging was not explained by lifestyle factors.
"A genetic factor that can explain this difference is the presence of estrogen in the female body, a hormone with beneficial properties for women," concludes Dr. Kankaanp.
