UNESCO declares Marubi Archive part of Memory of the World

The archive of negatives, objects and documents of Pietro and Kel Marubi has been declared part of the International Memory of the World Register by UNESCO, thus ranking it among the most precious heritages of humanity.
The news was announced by the Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, who described this as a historic moment for Albanian culture.
"Extraordinary news! UNESCO has declared the archive of negatives, objects and documents of Pietro and Kel Marubi as part of the Memory of the World International Register!", Gonxha writes on social networks.
"One of the most precious treasures of our national memory is now declared a world heritage!", he continues.
"From the heart of Shkodra, this rare photographic treasure that has immortalized the image, life, history and spirit of Albanians, receives today the highest international appreciation!
"This is not simply an appreciation of the contribution of the Marubs, the founders of Albanian photography, but also an extraordinary appreciation for Shkodra, the city that gave life to the art, culture and memory of a nation," Gonxha emphasized.
According to him, this is an appreciation not only for the Marubi dynasty, which laid the foundations of Albanian photography, but also for the city of Shkodra, which remains a reference point for art, culture and national memory.
"For the first time, Shkodra has a part of itself in the Memory of the World," said the minister, adding that this achievement gives voice, light and eternity to a unique heritage.
The Director of the National Museum of Photography "Marubi", Luçjan Bedani, said that "this is great news for the Albanian cultural heritage and the unique contribution that the Marubi dynasty has made to the world history of photography."
"A historic moment for Albanian art and a big step forward for the contribution that Shkodra has made to culture in Albania. It will now have its mark on world culture as well."
"A thank you goes to all the contributors who made this historic achievement for Albanian cultural heritage possible," he underlined.
UNESCO's "Memory of the World" program aims to preserve and promote the most important documents of human history across the globe.
