The 5-year-old Turkish boy disappeared after the earthquake, he is found alone

After the fatal shock of the powerful earthquake that killed thousands of people in Turkey and Syria, a 5-year-old child who was declared missing, was found alone in the Netherlands, 1,500 miles from his home. Police said he told them he was from Turkey and had lost his home in the February 6 earthquake.

In addition, they noted that the minor was wandering around the city alone and spoke only Turkish. At the police station, the 5-year-old talked to a Turkish policeman and told him that his parents are still in Turkey and that they were injured by the earthquake.

The child is now in the hands of social workers and will later be transferred to a juvenile protection institution.

It is currently unclear how the child arrived in the Netherlands and the Turkish embassy in The Hague has asked the Dutch foreign ministry for more information on the matter.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing 50,000 people and injuring over 100,000 in Turkey alone.

About 14 million people, or 16% of Turkey's population, were affected. Because of the very cold overnight temperatures, many people who had survived the initial collapse of their homes died of hypothermia while waiting for rescuers to pull them out of the rubble.
