Barack Obama honors his late mother: She was the biggest idol in my life

Former US President Barack Obama, who celebrated his birthday on August 4, announced a beautiful tribute to his late mother Ann Dunham. On his 61st birthday, Obama honored her by naming the Presidential Center's water garden after her.
Obama shared the news on his social media account. On Instagram, along with a short video, he wrote: “My mother, Ann Dunham, was the biggest influence in my life. She had a core belief in our shared humanity and made sure I recognized the inherent dignity in every person. Today I am proud to share that the Water Garden at the Obama Presidential Center will be named in her honor.”
"My mother has had the greatest influence in my life. As a very young woman who raised a child, she somehow realized that if you love a child enough even if you don't have much, if you fill their mind with a sense of wonder and joy and tell them that they can do anything, it turns out that the kid usually does well," he said in the video.

"When I look at my values, the fundamental belief in our common humanity and the inherent dignity of every person was instilled in me by my mother," he added.
Renowned artist and architect Maya Lin has brought this vision to life. “I've been drawn to water throughout my career and have created many of these outdoor public fountains. There's something so powerful about using water very fluidly, so when you touch the water you change it," she said.
"I could picture her sitting on one of the benches on a beautiful summer afternoon and just smiling and watching a bunch of kids run through a fountain and I thought that would capture who she was as well as anything else." Obama said.
