The Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, announced the postponement of the session for the president to 14:00. Haxhiu called on the opposition MPs to be present in the hall. She said that she has not received written notification from any of them about the reasons for their absence.
"I invite the opposition again to come to the session on the election of the president that we started yesterday and to give them the opportunity to be present at this session. We are continuing this session at 2:00 PM," said Haxhiu.
The session began amid accusations of a constitutional coup. Only VV deputies were present in the hall, without the necessary quorum of 80 deputies.
The session is being boycotted by the opposition, who criticized the government for starting the session without the presence of 80 deputies, calling it a constitutional violation.
For this position of president, VV has Feride Rushiti and Hatixhe Hoxha.
This session began last night and was interrupted after a vote was held that was deemed unconstitutional with only 64 deputies in the hall. 63 votes were for candidate Feride Rushiti, while Hatixhe Hoxha did not receive any votes.
The constitutional deadline for electing a President ends at midnight today. If he is not elected, the country will go to elections.
