Six years without a trace, the mystery of the disappearance of Mirjeta Zeka from Mitrovica

Six years after the mysterious disappearance of Mirjeta Zeka from Mitrovica, there are still no answers to her fate. She disappeared on the very day she was scheduled to return to Germany.
Her family members are asking the justice system to intensify the investigation and shed light on this painful event. Their suspicions are against Mirjeta's husband.
The Zeka family's lawyer, Amar Alija, said in an interview with Telegrafi that nothing has been known about Mirjeta Zeka since 2019.
"Now this case has been made public and we all know that since March 31, 2019, no trace has been found by the prosecution authorities regarding the fate of Mirjeta Zeka. The Basic Prosecution of Mitrovica, after receiving information from Mirjeta's family, that is, since July 2019, since the family reported her to the police and the prosecutor began the investigation, has undertaken several investigative actions. Several examinations have been carried out, let's say or verifications of several suspected places where the body could be found, several witnesses have been heard, but to this day the investigations have not brought to light any, let's say, sufficient evidence to file any indictments," he stated.
Alija said that Mirjeta's husband was a suspect in this case, but two years ago the Basic Prosecution of Mitrovica suspended the investigations.
"I believe that the prosecutor in the case and the Prosecution should have taken some investigative actions, they should have interviewed some people who are supposed to possess some information that would help in clarifying the fate. After that, I have seen that in a way the case is being neglected, so the years are passing, investigations are not bringing anything," he explained.
Alija said that he requested the Special Prosecution Office to transfer the case to Pristina, but received a negative response.
"Then I also made a request to the Acting Chief State Prosecutor that the case be transferred to the Special Prosecution Office, because this case is quite enigmatic and they need to involve the best prosecutors of the Special Prosecution Office or create a team of prosecutors who will jointly open the investigations and continue the investigations in a professional manner," he emphasized.
Among other things, the lawyer said that "her husband has given several interviews to the Police, let's say, but when he was invited to the Prosecutor's Office, the same person, upon the lawyer's recommendation, was protected by silence."
The lawyer said that Mirjeta Zeka's family members have indicated that she has not had any complaints, but that they have noticed unusual behavior.
"From conversations with family members, as well as from those conversations that family members often give statements to the media, they have shown that at that time, Mirjeta did not have any concrete complaints about physical violence, but they have noticed unusual behavior. So, she is not allowed to freely talk to family members, whether by phone or in physical presence, in some form, she did not feel comfortable in that relationship."
Alija said they demand that Mirjeta Zeka's case be transferred to the Special Prosecution Office, that more professional prosecutors be selected, and that a professional investigation be conducted.
Regarding the case, Telegrafi has also contacted the Basic Prosecution Office in Mitrovica and they have stated that investigations regarding the case have currently been suspended. / Telegrafi
