Kosovo Assembly adopts resolution on Hague trial

The Kosovo Assembly has approved with 90 votes a resolution through which it has requested the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor's Office in The Hague to exercise a fair trial against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
The Democratic League of Kosovo MPs did not participate in the vote, as their request to add a point to the content was not accepted.
The resolution demands that the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor's Office return the process in The Hague against former KLA leaders to European standards for a fair and impartial trial, respecting the Constitution of Kosovo, the European Convention on Human Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights.
The resolution also calls on the Ombudsman, at the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, to play its role in addressing violations during the trial process. It also calls on countries funding the Specialist Court to ensure that the funding is for a body that implements European standards for fair trials and to hold it accountable for maintaining the independence and fairness of the process.
