Billionaire Jeff Bezos' rocket explodes shortly after launch

Amazon multibillionaire Jeff Bezos' rocket has exploded during launch to space on a test flight of his company Blue Origin.

The 68-year-old's space company Blue Origin has launched rockets into space 22 times as part of its New Shepard program without incident to date.

One minute after liftoff, the vehicle carrying research equipment veered off course and reported a thrust failure.

A video released by Blue Origin shows the emergency system then separating the capsule from the carrier. As the rocket touched down in Texas, the capsule parachuted back to Earth.

According to Blue Origin, no one was injured in the crash.
