The original plan, called the "Blood League Incident", took place in early 1932.
He intended to assassinate a number of influential businessmen and politicians to bring about a "Shōwa Restoration", which would restore power to Emperor Hirohito and abolish the Taishō democracy that had begun after the Russo-Japanese War.
Despite their planning, the ultranationalist group managed to kill only two leaders.
The first was the former finance minister of Japan Inoue Junnosuke and the general director of Mitsui Holding Company Dan Takuma.
Since the Blood League Incident failed, the group planned another attack for May 15 of that year.
