Norway to build world's longest and deepest undersea road

Norway is building the world's longest and deepest underwater tunnel, one of Europe's most ambitious engineering projects. The tunnel aims to improve the country's transport connections and infrastructure.
The record-breaking Rogaland Fixed Link – or Rogfast – will pass under the country's fjords, be approximately 26.7 km long and, at its deepest point, 390 m below sea level.
Once completed in 2033, the tunnel connection is expected to cut travel time between Norway's two largest cities, Stavanger and Bergen, by 40 minutes.
The Rogfast project, which is close to halfway through construction, is part of the main European route E39, which runs along the west coast of Norway.
The road connects cities such as Kristiansand, Stavanger, Haugesund and Bergen and will replace ferry crossings and simplify travel, according to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, which is behind the project.
“Stavanger is the fourth largest city in Norway and Bergen the second largest. We hope that this project can also reduce travel time for workers who commute to Stavanger or Bergen every day,” said Oddvar Kaarmo, Rogfast project manager at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
