The lost tomb of the founder of the Mongol Empire Genghis Khan

Where Genghis Khan is buried has long been a topic of debate. A popular (but probably untrue) story says that the founder of the Mongol Empire asked to be buried in an unmarked grave. The soldiers carrying his body killed anyone who had knowledge of the route to the burial site. The people who built the tomb were killed, then the soldiers who killed these people met the same end.

Regardless of historical accuracy, the location of the tomb was lost. Over the years, archaeologists and historians have built many theories about where it is.

But with strict restrictions on conducting archaeological digs on the holy land in Mongolia, the chance of finding solid evidence from any potential site is slim. What is known is that Genghis died in the late summer of 1227 in the mountainous Liupan region of China. His body was transported back to Mongolia for burial.

The great leader who founded the Mongol Empire is known as a great conqueror who even extended his territory from China to Hungary.

He has inspired many people and gained many loyalists because of his principles and bravery.

When he died in 1227, his faithful followers secretly buried him in an unmarked place, all witnesses were killed. Horses were also used to destroy evidence of the Great Khan's burial. His followers even moved part of the river to hide the place.

Some experts say his body is in Mongolia's Khentii Aimag province. However, archaeologists found the temple of Genghis Khan in 2004.

After decades of searching for the remains of his body inside the temple, no elements were ever found that could lead to finding his body.
