In the next podcast, the chairman of PD, Lulzim Basha, also spoke about the accusations made against him regarding the Durrës-Kukas road. He blames all those who engaged in baseless accusations, as according to him "without their help, my role in the construction of this road would probably have been forgotten".
Basha said that placing a beam on the road of the Nation is a bad trick played on the citizens and for this he expressed his commitment that one of the first acts as Prime Minister will be the removal of that beam.
The head of the DP also complained about government corruption in recent years, which has resulted in the mass departure of Albanians.
Basha : Initially, I ignored the accusations of the opponents with some disgust. I was saying what are these 238 million euros in damages, while the total payment when I left the ministry was only 60 million of the guarantee to start the works.
So it was a total meltdown. Of course they took him to the prosecutor's office, I knew everything, that is, what they did. Then the second phase I had was a rage bordering on rage. Now it's good that they don't give me decoration, because I don't want it, I didn't do it for decoration, it's good that they don't say thank you, but why do they have to do this one, why are they so mean until I realized that I was wrong.
Everything had God's hand in it. I want to say thank you to Edi Rama and everyone else who joined in that mud battle against me. In particular, thank you to those who made this criminal case, also to others who for narrow political agendas, maybe some who may have had Within my political family contributed to it.
Because without their help, my role in the construction of this road would probably have been forgotten. Not that I need to be reminded, but they have contributed to perpetuate my role in the construction of this road. Of course, none of the accusations are true. Today, the road has proven to be the wisest and most beneficial economic investment of the Albanian state since its foundation. The volume of tourism alone justifies the total cost of the road every two years.
The economic volume has justified the construction of the road 8, 9m times. The cost of road construction, not today but even 10 years ago, is at least 2 to 3 times higher than when it was built and completed. And it is the cleanest public procurement that Albania and the Balkans have ever had.
I don't feel good when I see that at the time it was built it was not tolled, but today it is tolled. I stand by my commitment that this road needs to be maintained, no doubt, but putting the beam up undoes everything. The idea is that there are no more obstacles, suddenly they put a beam.
So it is a bad trick by which the state removes its responsibilities to pay for the maintenance of this road for which it receives taxes. It gives these responsibilities to the private person who receives extra and profitable tax. So I stand by a commitment that I made public to the Albanians, that one of the first acts as prime minister is the removal of this beam.
The road is development and these roads are also built to give a new boost to the local economy.
The fact that although quite a few have been built, there is still a depopulation of these areas and a massive abandonment, shows that building the road is not enough. This is a government which, with its policies, instead of helping and facilitating people's lives, makes it more difficult and forces them to leave, and this is happening now. Today we can have a half-for-half Albania compared to what Edi Rama took to govern in 2013, and this is one of the reasons why the census data is not published.
