Socialist MP Fatmir Xhafaj was on News 24 today where he spoke about the electoral campaign and the May 11 elections.

Xhafaj emphasized that the main role in preventing electoral crime does not lie with SPAK, but with the district prosecutors' offices.

Xhafaj : We need to look at the issue more broadly. Free elections are the cornerstone of a democratic state. Very good steps forward have been made. The approach has changed. We are not yet at the best possible standards. It is important that citizens become aware of their vote. Everything starts from the weight that the voter has, the voter's approach to the importance that his vote has. The holder of the right to vote is the citizen. The second factor is the political parties, the role they play. The third factor is individuals. The fourth factor is the institutions, the entire system of administration of the electoral process, but also the institutions of the justice system. SPAK does not have all the weight. Wrong approach.

They may have the most negative part, when the action is criminalized. But up to that point, there is a wide area that needs to be addressed. The main responsibility goes to the prosecutors of the judicial districts. SPAK has only two criminal offenses for the electoral system. The most delicate issue is the involvement of the criminal element. I do not see such a thing in the area, but there may be certain areas where these elements are present. We can also do the opposite, it produces the opposite effect if they deal with second-hand issues. So far I have not seen any serious denunciations.
