Greece with its eyes on Tirana/ The hearing for Fredi Beleri is being held today, OMONIA warns of protests
The eyes of Greece will return today from Albania, as the hearing is expected to be held to consider Fredi Beleri's request to be released from the cell.
Beleri has asked the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime to be released from prison, so that he can be sworn in as the mayor of Himara, after winning the mandate in the May 14 elections.
Greek media reports that Beleri's supporters will stage a protest in front of SPAK, demanding his release.
"A gathering of people, including friends and relatives from Himara, are expected to be outside the court to express support for Beleri, who has been in prison for seven months," reported Greek state media ERT.
On the other hand, Omonia has also announced holding a protest. Through a message on social networks, Omonia calls on citizens to participate in the protest, which will be held at 2:00 p.m., the time when the court session is scheduled to be held.
"Himara elected the Mayor on May 14. Any decision different from what the people want is unacceptable. Time for the mockery to end," says Omonia's post.
