Greece warns Albania again, Athens letter to the EU: Without resolving the Beler issue, there is no agreement on opening negotiations
" Athens is escalating its reactions against the still incarceration of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri", writes today the Greek media, "Protothema".
It is further stated that according to information, today in COREPER (Council of Permanent Representatives of EU Member States) Greece has expressed hesitation regarding the progress of Albania's membership process, making it clear that it will not give its consent to the progress of Albania's membership negotiations if there are no positive developments regarding the assumption of duties by the elected mayor of Himara Municipality, Fredi Beleri.
In October, Greece did not accept the sending of the letter of the "27" for the opening of a series of Chapters at the starting point of the EU membership negotiations with Albania.
" Athens, with the statements of Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and the mission to Tirana of State Minister Stavros Papastavros, who visited Fredi Beleri in Durrës prison, has sent a clear message that it will use every means of pressure at its disposal, for dropped this arbitrary and political criminal prosecution against Beler, who brutally violates the Rule of Law in Albania", writes "Protothema".
