European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, held a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during her visit to Athens, where she also spoke about the European integration agenda for candidate countries, including Albania.
Kos said that progress is being seen in the Western Balkans region, especially with Montenegro and Albania.
She emphasized, addressing the officials at the table, that they are awaiting confirmations on the intermediate standards for the rule of law in Albania, adding that she is "looking in their direction", adding that the countries in question are implementing the reforms.
"In the Western Balkans we see a lot of progress in Montenegro and Albania. We are now waiting for confirmation of intermediate standards for the rule of law.
"They are implementing reforms and I do not accept the criticism of some people who say that we are paying more attention to Moldova and Ukraine than to the rest of the Balkans. This is not true. Progress should be based on merit and I hope that these positive examples, such as Montenegro and Albania, will also influence other countries", Kos says, among other things.
