"Electoral Reform Commission to resume work"/ OSCE Ambassador Tarran:

The OSCE Ambassador to Albania, Michel Tarran, has emphasized the importance of resuming the work of the ad hoc commission on electoral reform, describing it as an essential process for improving the legal framework for elections in the country.

Tarran stated that the OSCE strongly encourages the continuation of the work of this commission, as there are still problems in the electoral law which, according to OSCE/ODIHR assessments, does not fully meet the necessary standards. He recalled that amendments to the electoral law are a recommendation repeated over the years by ODIHR observation missions.

"We hope that the commission will resume work as soon as possible, as what it is doing is extremely important. There are several issues in the electoral law that need to be improved and this is a recommendation that is made every time by the ODIHR mission," the ambassador said.

According to Tarran, this time there are positive signs that the ODIHR's message has been heard by political actors. He noted that, without getting involved in political debates, all parties represented in Parliament seem to agree on the need for electoral reform.

"This time I have the impression that the ODIHR message has been taken seriously. Political parties, despite their differences, agree that this reform is necessary and we will help improve it," Tarran declared.
