The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, held several meetings in the US Senate, focusing on cooperation and coordination on issues of common interest between Albania and the US. During the meeting with Senator Elissa Slotkin, strategic coordination on security issues, economic and political cooperation between the two countries was addressed.
Spiropali emphasized in a message on social networks that “as a representative of Michigan, Senator Slotkin appreciates the active role of the large Albanian community in her district”. Slotkin also supports the contribution of the Albanian diaspora in strengthening Albanian-American ties. The Minister also met with Senator Gary Peters, founder and co-chair of the “Albanian Issues Caucus”, which maintains a special attention to the interests of the Albanian-American community.
“Albania also considers this friendship group a reliable and constructive partner for advancing bilateral relations in all areas of common interest,” Spiropali wrote. The Foreign Minister was also received by Senator Steve Daines, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Cooperation, a supporter of Albania and a very good expert on regional security issues.
At the meeting, Spiropali emphasized that "Albania remains committed to transatlantic security, including support and commitment to the 5% defense spending target within NATO." "Holding the NATO Summit in Tirana in 2027 will be a significant moment for strengthening the unity and cohesion of our Alliance," the Minister underlined.
