Marjana Korceku was threatened with her family? Bajri family lawyer reacts: It is damaging the reputation of my clients

Following the public statement made this Wednesday afternoon by MP Marjana Koçeku, who publicly addressed the Bajri group in Shkodra, claiming that she and her family had been threatened, the reaction of the legal representative of the Bajri family has come.
It was lawyer Sokol Tahiraj who, through an official statement, announced that the accusations publicly raised by Koçek are unfounded in evidence and constitute, according to him, a direct attack on the reputation and dignity of the persons he represents.
"Regarding the statements made publicly by MP Marjana Koçeku, which mention our clients and refer to them with denigrating and prejudiced labels, we feel obliged to clarify to public opinion that these statements are unfounded and constitute a direct attack on the dignity, reputation and fundamental rights of the persons we represent.
"In a state of law, no one can be found guilty or publicly labeled based on political statements, personal perceptions or media insinuations. Any claim for criminal liability must be based on evidence and assessed only by competent judicial bodies, and not by public statements of a denigrating nature," the lawyer writes, while further emphasizing that all possible legal steps are being considered to protect his clients, including pursuing procedures before competent bodies, in the event that it is assessed that their rights have been violated through public statements.
Regarding the statements made publicly by MP Marjana Koçeku, which mention our clients and refer to them with denigrating and prejudiced labels, we feel obliged to clarify to public opinion that these statements are unfounded and constitute a direct attack on the dignity, reputation and fundamental rights of the persons we represent.
In a state governed by the rule of law, no one can be found guilty or publicly labeled on the basis of political statements, personal perceptions, or media insinuations. Any claim of criminal liability must be based on evidence and assessed only by competent judicial authorities, and not on public statements of a derogatory nature.
The MP's statements, which mention our clients in a threatening and stigmatizing context, violate the principle of the presumption of innocence, guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Albania and the European Convention on Human Rights.
Furthermore, the language used in her public response does not contribute to democratic debate nor to public information, but creates a climate of tension and prejudice against the individuals mentioned, aiming to damage their reputations and those of their families.
For these reasons, we are seriously considering all legal means available to protect the interests of our clients, including filing reports with the competent authorities and pursuing legal procedures for any statement that turns out to be untrue, defamatory or infringing on their rights.
We invite Ms. Koçeku, if she has concrete evidence for any publicly made claims, to present them to the responsible institutions according to the law and not to hold public trials in the media or social networks.
Our clients will continue to defend their rights with the means guaranteed by law, while we, as legal representatives, will react to any attempt to harm them through unfounded and denigrating statements.
