Mountain Package, Tobacco: Law tailored to government clients violates property rights

Democratic Party MP, Jorida Tabaku, has reacted through a video published on social networks, where she expresses concerns about the so-called "Mountain Package" by the Rama government.
She links this initiative to the same approach that, according to her, was used earlier with the strategic investment law and with the activity of the Investment Corporation.
Tabaku argues that the model followed by the government has gone through several phases. According to her, initially coastal areas were treated for clientelistic interests, then public spaces in cities were included, and now this approach is expanding towards mountainous areas. She describes the “mountain package” as an intervention that violates property rights and creates a risk of social conflict.
In her assessment, this initiative does not represent sustainable development, but rather the continuation of a practice that favors a limited group to the detriment of citizens. She emphasizes that the way priority areas are being determined and the involvement of municipalities in this process creates the belief that the same model applied on the coast and in urban areas will be followed.
Tabaku emphasizes the importance of property rights, calling them the foundation of a democratic state and a criterion for European standards. She states that any law that violates property, disregards court decisions, and harms citizens' contributions violates the Constitution and undermines trust in institutions.
In conclusion, she calls for an end to what she calls "institutional nannying," adding that Albania cannot function as a European state if it does not fully guarantee property rights and equality before the law.
