Armando Rabi, one of the candidates to lead the Gjirokastra branch of the Democratic Party, has withdrawn from the race, making strong accusations against the party leadership and the political leader. Through a note on his Facebook page, Rabi writes that in the Gjirokastra Democratic Party, competition is not allowed and even worse, sections and structures do not exist.

Dear Democrats, Today I am addressing you with a difficult, but honest decision: I have decided to withdraw from the race for chairman of the Democratic Party, Gjirokaster branch.
This is not a decision I made alone.
It is a decision that arose from conversations with you, from your motivating messages, from the disappointment I felt every day since the moment I announced my candidacy, from the political leader of the Gjirokastra district.
Many of you told me:
"There will be no election. You're in vain." And unfortunately, this turned out to be true.
Not because Democrats don't like elections, but because some don't like Democrats.
I went, knocked, and asked for just one simple thing: That the statute be respected, and that there be fair competition.
After many efforts, the competition opened…
but not to be free, but to be captured, manipulated, suffocated by intrigue and propaganda...
And the worst thing? The deputy openly said in the chair:
If Armando is in competition with this former mayor, he has the upper hand.
Then I'm asking you: what was the problem if I won?
Who would bother with an honest victory?
Why did this race have to be stopped in the first place?
The truth is bitter: the DP in Gjirokastra today is not what we know.
The structures are only on paper.
Sections do not exist.
Democrats are not being heard. For years there has been no voice, no resistance, no real opposition.
And when this was said openly, in front of everyone, there was still an attempt to keep everything as it is. Not for the democrats, but for personal interests.
Not for the Party, but for bargaining.
I can't be part of this.
I can't be silent when I'm asked to be silent.
I can't close my eyes when I see injustice.
I cannot compromise with my conscience.
I am a Democrat like you. I come from a family that has given 35 years to this party, without asking for anything in return.
I have been in opposition every day, not just during elections. I have spoken when I needed to speak, even when I was told to be silent.
Today I am leaving a deformed race, but I am not leaving you.
I will be among you, by your side, as always.
Because the Democratic Party is nobody's property.
It belongs to honest Democrats.
And their voice doesn't fade away. No matter how hard they try.
Keep the party as your property...but know one thing: you will never be able to silence the voice of the Democrats. /Alfapress.al
