Why doesn't the US bring an ambassador to Albania?/ Former US State

Former senior American diplomat, Jonathan Moore, has commented on the lack of US ambassadors in Albania, Kosovo and Serbia, calling this a "disaster" for the region, at a time when the role of diplomatic representatives remains essential for political dialogue and stability.

In an interview with journalist Xhevahir Qardaku on Ditarin i Kosova on A2 CNN, Moore stressed that the lack of an officially appointed ambassador is a luxury that Balkan countries cannot afford.

"Of course it's important to have a representative to talk to the president, the prime minister or even the people themselves. It's a shame that there isn't an ambassador in the countries you mentioned," Moore said.

However, he stressed that current diplomats, chargés-de-affaires, are maintaining regular contact with the highest levels of government. But according to him, the global situation has shifted Washington's focus away from the Balkans.

“In the 1990s, the Balkans had the main attention of the United States, but today there are many other crises happening further away from the Balkans that have received most of the attention,” Moore said.

Despite the challenges, Moore believes that American strategic interests in stability in the region remain unchanged.
