Rama speaks about pensions in Gjirokastra: We removed the ceiling, established the contributory base

Socialist leader Edi Rama is holding a meeting with citizens in Gjirokastra. Rama said that those who today complain about the plight of pensioners turned pensions into assistance.

"Those who today complain about the plight of pensioners did it. Before the reform, two serious things happened. First, as you know better, the entire production base of the country was destroyed, they were all put out on the streets and 40-year-olds were called pensioners and a ceiling of 240 thousand old lek was set, and if you jumped up, you couldn't exceed the ceiling, no matter how much insurance you had. So the pension turned into assistance, it wasn't a pension. What happened?

As someone who had no contributions, like Suzana, the ceiling was that much. And the pensioner came out with the ceiling of 24 thousand lekë. Today, with the indexations made year after year, she has a pension of 350 euros. Meanwhile, the other pensioner who came out after the reform, we removed the ceiling and placed the contributory base at the foundation of the pension scheme, and the other pensioner in relation to her contributions, although they have the same years, has a larger pension, 380 euros. These were the two different policies for pensions between us and those who come and complain about the plight of pensioners", said Rama.
