American actress Susan Sarandon has been arrested in New York along with other protesters during a demonstration near the United Nations headquarters, shortly before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to the UN General Assembly.
Protesters held a sit-in protest in the street, holding signs with slogans against US military support for Israel and demanding an end to the war in Gaza. In footage released by Agence France-Presse and TMZ, Sarandon is seen as police handcuff her and remove her from the protest site.

New York police said the crowd was ordered to leave after protesters blocked an intersection. Those who disobeyed the order were taken into custody.
The exact number of people arrested during the protest has not yet been announced.
Sarandon's arrest came at a time when numerous protests were taking place in New York regarding the war in Gaza and US policy towards Israel, as part of the activities of the UN General Assembly.
