Accused of sexually abusing several trafficked women, Jean-Claude Van Damme reacts
Jean-Claude Van Damme has responded to serious allegations of his involvement in sexual relations with five Romanian women, suspected victims of human trafficking, during a party organized as part of the launch of a television series.
His statement comes a week after news reported by international media that an official criminal report has been filed against him with the Romanian Directorate for the Prosecution of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).
According to the complaint, the actor had sexual contact with five women, who were exploited by a criminal organization led by Morel Bollea. He chose to respond through his representative, Patrick Govek, to the American newspaper.
"We have become aware of media reports of allegations involving Jean-Claude Van Damme. The alleged events are ridiculous and non-existent. Van Damme does not wish to comment on these rumors, which are absurd and baseless," his lawyer said.
The events reportedly took place in Cannes, at an event hosted by Jean-Claude Van Damme himself. According to the complaint, the women, all models from Romania, were "offered to him as gifts" by the trafficking ring.
The case is expected to go to France's Supreme Court, which will have to approve the start of criminal proceedings.
