The German press, starting with Bild and Der Spiegel, reported their deaths today. According to them, the criminal police of the Bavarian capital have launched an investigation to shed light on the causes of the twins' deaths. According to Bild, Alice and Ellen chose assisted suicide, but the investigation will clarify what happened in the house, which the police raided after the twins were already dead.

Born in Nerchau, Saxony, on August 20, 1936, Alice and Ellen Kessler began studying dance as children, first in Germany and then, between 1955 and 1960, in Paris. After representing West Germany in the 1959 Eurovision Song Contest with “Heute Abend wollen wir tanzen geh'n” and acting together in several musical comedies, the Kessler twins moved to Italy, where their careers took off.

Their television debut in Italy took place on “Giardino d'inverno”, the Saturday evening program that they hosted together with Quartetto Cetra and Henri Salvador. From that moment on, the Kessler twins became a constant presence on Italian television, loved by the public not only for their dancing talent but also for their wit. In the following years, they took part in successful programs such as Studio Uno, La Prova del Nove, Canzonissima, Buonasera con… Alice ed Ellen Kessler and La Fabbrica dei Sogni.

However, in the same years, Alice and Ellen Kessler also made their successful film debut, starring alongside talents such as Walter Chiari in Dino Risi's 1964 film Il giovedì, and Alberto Sordi in the episode Guglielmo il dentone from the 1965 film I complessi. At the same time, the twins' musical career also took off in Italy, thanks to hits such as Da-da-un-pa, La notte è piccola and Quelli belli come noi.

After more than 20 successful years in Italy, Alice and Ellen returned to their native Germany in 1986, choosing to live in Grünwald, a suburb of Munich, in two separate but interconnected apartments.

However, over the years, they returned to Italy several times to participate in events and television programs, such as Una rotonda sul mare on Canale 5 in 1990 and Super Ciro on Italia 1 in 2004, their last experience as presenters of an Italian program.

In 2011, after almost 30 years away from the theater, the Kessler twins returned to perform in Giancarlo Sepe's musical Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In 2014, they were guests of Fabio Fazio and Luciana Littizzetto at the Sanremo Music Festival, where they performed their hit "Quelli belli come noi".

Over the years, the Kessler twins, always inseparable, have had long and meaningful relationships. Alice has been linked to French singer Marcel Amont and Italian voice actor Enrico Maria Salerno, while Ellen was Umberto Orsini's partner for years.
