Princess Beatrice is a mother for the second time, the baby's name honors her late grandmother

On January 29, Buckingham Palace announced the arrival of Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's second child by sharing a sweet photo of the newborn.

The couple chose the name Athena Elizabeth Rose for their daughter, paying a touching tribute to Beatrix's late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.

The baby arrived a few weeks early, after the palace had initially announced an early spring date. However, the proud parents share that their little one is "healthy".

"Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the birth of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, January 22 at 12:57 p.m.," the palace said in a statement.

"The King and Queen, as well as other members of the royal family, have been informed and are delighted with the news," the post continued.

"Princess Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care," it continued. "Her Royal Highness and her daughter are in good health and the family is enjoying spending time with Athena's older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna."

The statement was accompanied by a photo of the newborn, wrapped in her pink blanket and wearing a white T-shirt. The photo was taken by the proud father, who also shared it on his personal Instagram, expressing that he and his wife are "crazy" about little Athina.

"We welcomed little Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including her siblings) completely in awe of her now," he wrote.

"Our hearts are filled with love for you, little Athena. A huge thank you from my wife and I to all the wonderful staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their excellent care and support during this incredibly special time," he concluded.

Beatrice's little sister, Princess Eugenie, also shared her joy on an Instagram Story, posting a sweet photo of little Athena, along with a heartfelt message: "Welcome little one."

Princess Beatrice and her husband already have a daughter together, 3-year-old Sienna, while Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi also has an 8-year-old son from a previous relationship.
