Ugo Borsatti, photographer who captured the history of Trieste, dies at 98

Renowned photographer Ugo Borsatti, who documented the history of Trieste for decades, has died at the age of 98, "InTrieste" reported.
His archive of over 350,000 negatives, preserved in the Foto Omnia collection, constitutes a rich testimony to the political and cultural changes of the city. Among the most important moments he has captured are the riots of 1953 and the return of Trieste to Italy in 1954.
In addition to historical events, his photographs also reflected the daily lives of citizens, creating a visual memory for future generations. Among his most famous images is “Bacio” (The Kiss), an icon of human connections and the city’s history.
Born in Trieste in 1926, Borsatti founded Foto Omnia, making it an important center of documentary photography. Beyond photojournalism, he experimented with street photography and portraiture, always with a deep sensitivity to his subjects.
Known as the dean of Trieste's photographers, he was widely acclaimed and exhibited his work in many galleries. His death marks the loss of a master of photography, but his legacy remains a powerful testament to the spirit of Trieste.
