The tragic accident of the Portuguese Liverpool star, why 'supercars'

Fate was bad for Liverpool's Portuguese footballer, Diogo Jota, who about 12 days after his wedding to his girlfriend, Roisi Cardoso, the 28-year-old tragically lost his life along with his brother in the Spanish city of Valladolid, after the luxury car they were traveling in, a Lamborghini, caught fire and was completely destroyed.

According to information that has emerged so far, the two Portuguese footballers lost their lives on the 65th kilometer of the A-52 highway in the province of Zamora, near the administrative region of Palacio de Sanabria.

Witnesses to the event report that first a tire on the Lamborghini exploded and then the driver, who is still unknown, lost control, crashed into the barriers and the car caught fire.

The Lamborghini was completely destroyed, as can be seen in the videos circulating on social media. The passengers could not be identified, and identification was only made by the vehicle's license plate.

Why does a Lamborghini catch fire so quickly?

We've seen supercars catch fire before. One such case was Lamborghini's Jota brothers. Although supercars are every car enthusiast's dream and offer maximum driving excitement, they have a construction philosophy that makes them more dangerous to fire.

In particular, mid-mounted engines (like in Lamborghini) and their cooling and lubrication systems operate at very high temperatures.

Furthermore, the tight space around the engine, given that we are dealing with engines with many cylinders and components very close to each other, means that even a small leak can cause a fire.

The materials used, such as carbon fiber, help spread and sustain flames, while the lightweight metals used in construction have low melting points, so supercars often melt in such fires.

Therefore, in the event of a collision, the risk of a supercar catching fire and completely burning is high, due to the construction philosophy and materials used.

In the tragic Lamborghini case where Diogo Jota and his brother lost their lives, almost nothing remains of the car.
