F1/ Oscar Piastri triumphs in the Bahrain Grand Prix, disappoints Verstappen

Australian driver Oscar Piastri dominated from the start to the checkered flag at the Bahrain Grand Prix, becoming the first driver to climb to the top step of the podium this season.

Starting from pole position, the 24-year-old McLaren driver led the race with complete authority and was never really put under pressure from any rival.

Mercedes' George Russell finished second - although his position is still under review for a possible DRS rule violation.

The Briton immediately reclaimed the starting position that had been taken away from him for a mistake during the pit stop in qualifying, immediately overtaking Charles Leclerc's Ferrari and closely following Piastr throughout the race.

In third place was Lando Norris, also with McLaren, who managed to pass Leclerc and then tried to approach Russell, but without success.

Leclerc finished the race in fourth place, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, who was classified fifth.

A disappointing performance was had by the reigning champion, Max Verstappen, who did not shine and finished behind Hamilton and Alpine's Pierre Gasly.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the young Italian debutant, had a furious start, but after the "Safety Car" intervention due to debris on the track, he got tangled in traffic and finished the race in 11th place, outside the points zone.

This result gives a great start to the season for Piastr and McLaren, while signaling a season where anything can happen.
