
Ferrari and Mclaren start the challenge/ The two teams show their power at the start of Formula 1 testing


The start of the 2025 Formula 1 season in Melbourne looks set to be a tight battle between Ferrari and McLaren.
In the first free practice session, Lando Norris was fastest with McLaren-Mercedes, while in the second session Charles Leclerc with Ferrari set the best time of the day, moving up to the top.
Behind Leclerc is Oscar Piastri, the local driver from Melbourne, with a small margin of 124 thousandths of a second, while Norris closed the FP2 podium with only 141 thousandths behind the leader.
In his debut with Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton finished fifth, 420 thousandths behind his teammate.
Among the two redheaded drivers, Yuki Tsunoda surprisingly entered with VISA Cash App Racing Bulls, fourth with +0.345 seconds from Leclerc.
Racing Bulls also placed Isack Hadjar in sixth place, completing a very positive day for them.
In the race pace simulations, Ferrari and McLaren showed very good form, appearing very close to each other.
On the other hand, Mercedes and especially Red Bull had difficulties, which could greatly affect Sunday's race. Also, the weather forecast speaks of possible rain on race day, which could turn the tables.
Hulkenberg and Stroll also placed in the top 10, Alpine and Williams among the middle groups.
Nico Hulkenberg with Sauber and Lance Stroll with Aston Martin were positioned in eighth and ninth place respectively.
Carlos Sainz, the former Ferrari driver now with Williams, was ranked eleventh, however it will be Saturday's official practice that will decide how the Australian Grand Prix race will start.
