Lyon criticizes the refereeing in Ligue 1: This is the eighth mistake against us!

In France, this season, tensions between clubs and referees are reaching worrying levels. The most recent case comes from the match between Saint-Étienne and Olympique Lyonnais, where a harsh tackle by Lucas Stassin on Corentin Tolisso has sparked major controversy.
Initially, referee François Letexier punished the Saint-Étienne striker with a red card, but after the intervention of VAR, the decision was changed to a yellow card - a change that for Lyon was decisive and unfair. Tolisso came off on a stretcher, while Stassin himself, without the deserved punishment, scored both goals in the 2-1 victory for the home team.
OL president John Textor exploded in his post-match statement:
But Textor didn't stop there, emphasizing that this is not an isolated episode:
"In the last two years there have been seven cases where it has been acknowledged that OL have had refereeing errors confirmed by the national authority. Today is the eighth. Marseille have had four, each team at least two. This should not happen. The quality of refereeing is a real problem that must be acknowledged."
He emphasized that he is not accusing a single judge, but a system that is repeatedly failing:
"I'm not mentioning any referee in particular, but when the number of fouls reaches eight against just one club, the situation becomes alarming."
The episode is expected to continue to spark debate in France, where trust in VAR and referees is increasingly shaky. And for Lyon, the season is becoming increasingly complicated.
