An assassination attempt on MMA fighter Timur Khizriev outside his home in the capital of Dagestan, Makhachkala, has been making the rounds on the internet.
The Russian fighter, who trains at a facility owned by MMA superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov, was returning home from training when two gunmen suddenly attacked him. The complex's security cameras recorded the attempted murder.
As soon as Khizriev closes the trunk of his car, two hooded men run after him, the first shoots at close range, but the Russian athlete falls on him and a hand-to-hand fight begins.
The second hooded person follows him and also shoots him at close range.
Khizriev managed to escape, despite his injuries, as the attackers fled.
The martial arts athlete was injured in the shoulder, chest and hand, but was hospitalized in stable condition and out of danger.
Khizriev, who trains with Nurmagomedov, is 29 years old and has the same number of wins in 18 professional fights.
