Last Championship, Manchester City were able to take advantage of Arsenal's poor end to the season and cruise to their ninth Premier League title. The Citizens will be hoping to make it 10 next year, although a new and improved Gunners side will no doubt be out for revenge.
The likes of Newcastle and Manchester United will want to spoil their party, too. The emergence of the likes of Brighton and Aston Villa made the race for Europe fiercer than ever before in England. The 2023-24 season looks set to be even more competitive, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham looking to bounce back from disappointing performances.
At the other end of the table, all three promoted Premier League clubs aim to survive relegation, with Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town joining England's top flight in 2023-24. Meanwhile, the draw for the new Premier League championship was made today. These are the matches of the first week:
Vincent Kompany will travel to former employers Manchester City for his Premier League managerial debut after his Burnley side bounced back from relegation in the 2021-22 season.
Other debutants, Luton and Sheffield United, will face one of the members of the 'M23 Derby', with the 'Hatters' traveling to Brighton and the 'Blades' hosting Crystal Palace.
However, undoubtedly the standout match of the opening week of the new English Championship is Chelsea v Liverpool at Stamford Bridge. Both teams had disappointing performances last season and will compete again for European qualification in the 2023-2024 season.
