Yamal's record lasts only a year, 16-year-old Mora makes history with

A little over a year after setting a historic record, Lamine Yamal is no longer the youngest player to win an international trophy with a national team.

The record of Barcelona's talent, which seemed unbreakable after equaling and surpassing the achievement of the legend Pelé, has been broken by another rising 'star': Gilberto Mora, a 16-year-old talent from Mexico.

Lamine Yamal had a fantastic season with Barcelona, scoring 21 goals and providing 22 assists, which put him among the candidates for the Ballon d'Or. At the age of 17 years and 1 day, he won the European Championship with Spain, also being named the Best Young Player of the Tournament, and surpassing the famous record of Pelé, who won the World Cup with Brazil in 1958 at the age of 17 years and 249 days.

But his record was short-lived! In the CONCACAF Gold Cup final, held in Houston, Texas, Mexico defeated the United States 2-1 thanks to goals from Raul Jimenez and Edson Alvarez, lifting the trophy.

Attention focused on a new name: Gilberto Mora, who at the age of 16 started in the tournament final and won it, becoming the youngest player in history to win an international trophy with his national team.

Mora had made his debut a few days earlier against Saudi Arabia in the quarterfinals, setting the record as the youngest debutant in Mexico's history, while in the semifinals against Honduras he also recorded an assist.

Gilberto Mora is no stranger to club football either. With Tijuana, he became the youngest player to score and assist in Liga MX, doing so at the age of 15.

Mexican national team coach Javier Aguirre said:

"He is making history. Mora has an extraordinary mentality, he is a valuable asset for us. He is educated, humble and eager to learn. He successfully passed the test on his debut."

Thus, a new chapter has been written in the history of international football with the name Gilberto Mora, while Lamine Yamal can take solace in the fact that his record was only broken by another young genius.
