Thuram "hits" the dissatisfied: Obsessed with numbers, but football is more than that

Marcus Thuram provided an assist in Inter's 2-1 win over Torino in the Coppa Italia. However, the French striker has not had a good run of form this term, having last scored against Parma on January 7. In a recent interview, Thuram hit out at his critics.

"People are obsessed with numbers, often they don't even watch the matches and they don't give the award to the man of the match, the goalscorer. This is our generation and we have to accept that. Statistics matter because my job is to score goals, but football is more than that: there are assists, plays and playmaking. That's why I distance myself from what people read on social media, to avoid its influence on me."
