Apple moves iPhone production from China to India and Vietnam

Apple has announced that it is moving most of its iPhone and other device production for the US market from China to India and Vietnam in response to new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. According to CEO Tim Cook, most of the iPhones sold in the US will be made in India, while Vietnam will be the main production center for iPads, Macs, Apple Watch and AirPods.
Apple estimates that the new US tariffs could add about $900 million to its costs this quarter, although some products such as phones and computers are exempt from the tariffs. The Trump administration has repeatedly pressured Apple to move production to the US, while the company itself has pledged to invest $500 billion in the US over the next four years.
Despite trade tensions, Apple reported a 5% increase in revenue in the first quarter of 2025, reaching $95.4 billion. Profits rose by more than 60%, reaching $17 billion. Industry analysts have called the production shift a “tremendous shift” in Apple’s strategy, highlighting the gradual shift away from dependence on China.
