Facebook and Instagram end political ads

The Meta company, under which Instagram and Facebook operate, has announced that it will completely cancel the option of political and election advertising in EU countries from October.
Meta's announcement mirrors a decision Google announced last November, highlighting the resistance of big tech companies to EU rules aimed at curbing their power and ensuring greater accountability and transparency.
The European Union law, also known as the Regulation on Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising, which will apply from October 10, comes into force due to the growing threat of disinformation and foreign interference in elections in member states.
The law requires big tech companies to clearly label political ads on their platforms, who paid for them and how much, and how and which elections they refer to, or risk fines of up to 6% of their annual turnover.
'From the beginning of October 2025, we will no longer allow political, electoral and social advertising on our platforms in the EU,' Meta declared.
They also stated that this was a difficult decision for the company.
