Australian radio broadcast a program with an artificial intelligence presenter

A program belonging to the Australian Radio Network (ARN) has been addressing listeners for the past 6 months with a presenter created by artificial intelligence. According to the news in the Australian media, the voice of the presenter of the program “Workdays with Thy”, which is broadcast 4 hours a day during weekdays on ARN, has surprised people.

ARN's CADA station created a server called "Thy" using artificial intelligence software developed by voice cloning company ElevenLabs. Listeners listened to the radio broadcasts for 6 months without questioning the presenter's true identity.

“If your day is feeling a little dull, let Thy and CADA be the energy and vibrancy that will lift your mood,” the program’s website states.

Writer Stephanie Coombes, a listener to the program, questioned whether presenter Thy was a "real person."

"What is Thy's last name? Who is she? Where is she from? There is no biography of the woman who supposedly hosts this show," Coombes wrote on her blog.

On the other hand, audio analysis of the program revealed that the presenter made the same sound when saying the "old school" words on different shows.

– “They have real fans”

ARN official Fayed Tohme, in his statement on the subject, admitted that artificial intelligence was used to create Thy's voice. Tohme said that presenter Thy "sounds real and has real fans even though she is not a real person". Australian magazine "Mediaweek" commented on the situation, saying: "There are no microphones, no studio, just code and vibrations. An experiment by ARN and ElevenLabs that challenges the boundaries of 'live radio'".
