Fined 700 million euros by the EU, Apple and Meta "resist": Unfair

The European Union ordered tech giants Apple and Meta to jointly pay a total of 700 million euros.

The EU issued a €500 million fine on Apple and its App Store, while Meta was fined €200 million for the way it handled user data.

"We have a duty to protect the rights of citizens and innovative businesses in Europe," Commissioner Henna Virkkunen said in a statement.

Following the fine, the two technology companies have reacted angrily. Meta remains persistent in her accusations, claiming that the fine imposed by the EU is an attempt to hinder successful American businesses.

Meanwhile, Apple has said that it is being unfairly targeted by institutions and that it is being forced to provide its technological service for free.

The fines are lower than some of those issued by the EU in the past, but given the heightened economic tensions with America, they still risk angering US President Donald Trump.
