WhatsApp tests AI-powered fake news removal

Meta is working on a WhatsApp feature that allows users to verify misinformation and fake news in conversations, in real time and without leaving the app.

The button is called Ask Meta AI and was discovered by the specialized website WaBetaInfo in an update to the Android app, number 2.25.23.24.

To verify the content of a news story, select Ask Meta AI from the app menu and the content will be automatically forwarded to Meta's chatbot, to which the user will ask a specific question.

At the moment, the feature is only available to a few users as a test and it will be gradually rolled out to everyone.

Mark Zuckerberg's company aims to curb the spread of misinformation, which spreads rapidly through conversations. It remains to be seen how this system, which relies on artificial intelligence (AI) without human supervision, will work.
