Zuckerberg introduced super glasses with Artificial Intelligence, what went

Meta has unveiled a new range of smart glasses, powered by its artificial intelligence (AI) technology, and claims they will be an indispensable accessory for users around the world.

At the annual Meta Connect developers conference, the social media giant's chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, announced a series of devices in partnership with two eyewear firms.

The firm also introduced a so-called neural bracelet, which, with its Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses, allows users to perform tasks such as sending messages with small hand gestures.

The event comes at a time when the owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp faces ongoing scrutiny over the impact of its products, particularly on children.

He called the technology a "major scientific discovery" before an audience of hundreds gathered at the company's Silicon Valley campus, the BBC reports.

The Ray-Ban Meta Display features a full-color, high-resolution display on a single lens, where users can make video calls and view messages. It also features a 12-megapixel camera.

During his demonstrations in front of audiences, things didn't always go according to plan.

A call via WhatsApp, which is also owned by Meta, to the glasses was not made despite repeated attempts.

“I don’t know what to tell you,” Zuckerberg told attendees. “I keep breaking this thing.”

Despite the setback, Zuckerberg hopes that Meta's line of smart accessories will be a key platform for integrating its artificial intelligence tool, Meta AI, into people's lives.

Analysts say the smart glasses are likely to be more successful than the firm's multi-billion dollar Metaverse project - virtual worlds to connect users in digital environments.

“Unlike VR headsets, glasses are an everyday form of wear and not a burden,” said Forrester vice president and research director Mike Proulx.

But, he added, "the burden is on Meta to convince the vast majority of people who don't own AI glasses that the benefits outweigh the costs."

The company said it does not discuss sales information, but it is understood to have sold about two million pairs of smart glasses since it entered the market in 2023.

Meta's smart glasses will be available this month and will cost $799 (£586), hundreds of dollars more than Meta's current smart glasses.

Zuckerberg also unveiled the $499 Oakley Meta Vanguard sunglasses, which are aimed at sports enthusiasts, as well as the second generation of Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses, priced at $379.

Zuckerberg said in July that the company would spend hundreds of billions of dollars building artificial intelligence data centers in the US.
