Trump 'opens the door' to negotiations with Iran, sanctions relief and release of frozen assets on the table

US President Donald Trump appears ready to take a step towards resuming negotiations with Iran, considering the possibility of easing sanctions and releasing some frozen Iranian assets in exchange for concrete steps from Tehran regarding its nuclear program.
According to US officials cited by Axios, Washington's proposal comes at a time when diplomatic efforts by Qatari and Pakistani mediators to bring the US and Iran back to the negotiating table have encountered difficulties.
Talks between the two countries have remained frozen since July and the parties continue to have different positions on key issues.
Tehran wants the negotiations to focus on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. On the other hand, the Trump administration wants Iran to take steps and make concessions regarding its nuclear program.
However, the US offer to ease some economic measures and release frozen assets could create space for a return to diplomacy. This comes after Trump rejected the last proposal presented by the Iranian side.
Meanwhile, mediators are expected to meet in New York with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss a Qatari proposal that has been negotiated in recent days. They are also expected to hold talks with Trump administration officials, with the aim of conveying Tehran's position and finding common ground.
