Are we being monitored? What are DPI devices?

Albanians' phones and computers are not being tapped by the installation of DPI devices, which make access to TikTok impossible and their data is safe, according to the director general of the National Cyber Security Authority, Igli Tafa. In fact, the opposite is happening, according to him, DPIs play another function, that of protection.

"Here, let me clarify and reassure all citizens that first of all, 100% of internet traffic is encrypted. So encrypted protocols make it impossible to view sensitive information such as who is communicating with whom and what the messages contain, etc. ," he said.

Adriano Lleshi, director of Cyber Security Analysis (ASKS), also said that 7 DPI devices have been installed in our country in mobile companies and those that provide internet service, to make it possible to block the TikTok platform. Lleshi further added that in addition to this, DPI is a device that also increases the country's cybersecurity, as its other function is to protect against massive hacker attacks.

"DPI technology is a very advanced technology that makes it possible to identify and block signatures where we are currently blocking Tiktok. This belongs to the second phase of blocking because the first phase was at the domain, IP, SLI level, all of which are content providers that belong to the TikTok blocking. Currently, the identification of packages that access TikTok is being looked at and then the blocking is done," he said.

Lleshi said that these devices will not remain in working condition forever.

"The DPI-level blocking will be done for a maximum of one year until we reach an agreement with TikTok to put in place the appropriate filters that stop cyberbullying," said Lleshi.

Data theft from phones and computers has become an increasingly big problem in the digital world, as hackers gain access to personal information by exploiting weaknesses in digital security.
