Alarm in Greek prison/ Prisoner shot dead, Albanian Alket Rizai also present

A serious incident was recorded this Sunday evening at Domokos Prison , in Greece, where a prisoner lost his life under mysterious circumstances.

According to Greek media reports , the incident was recorded a few moments ago, where a life-sentenced prisoner headed towards the office of the head guard on duty with the intention of killing him.

When he tried to kill him, he was shot dead by another convict of Bulgarian origin.

Meanwhile, it is said that the incident occurred in the presence of the Albanian who is serving his sentence in the same prison, Alket Rizai.

The motives for the crime, or whether the incident is related to Rizai himself, are not yet known. An investigation team has arrived at the scene, while authorities have launched an investigation to verify the full circumstances of the incident and to clarify exactly what happened.

Alket Rizai has a long criminal record in Greece. He has been sentenced to life imprisonment twice, while additional sentences for other criminal offenses total 25 years in prison.

His name became known throughout Greece and beyond for spectacular prison escapes, including his collaboration with Greek criminal Vassilis Paleokostas, in one of the most daring helicopter escapes from the high-security prison in Korydallos in 2006.

Although after successive arrests he has spent the vast majority of his life behind bars, Rizai has also benefited from regular prison leave in recent years, thanks to his more disciplined behavior.

One such case occurred in January 2021, when during a random check in an area of Lamia, Greek police found Alket Rizai in a suspicious vehicle along with two other convicts. He was on official 5-day leave from prison at the time, which raised numerous questions in the Greek public and media.

Another important episode was his appearance before the three-member Lamia Minor Offenses Court, about a year ago. He was accused of possessing improvised weapons and illegal cell phones in his cell, but at the end of the trial, he was found not guilty.

On April 11, 2025, he requested release from prison.
