Investigative basis/Amnesty beneficiaries in prisons, the police are looking for

The State Police seeks to provide DNA biological samples of any inmate who will be released due to the prison amnesty. Through an official letter addressed to the Ministry of Justice and the General Directorate of Prisons, the head of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, requests cooperation in taking DNA samples of prisoners on the verge of release.

The genetic profiles that will be obtained will be stored in the DNA database of the State Police. According to sources close to this institution, the purpose of the process is to create the opportunity to compare these profiles with genetic profiles found in various unidentified incidents, or even in possible cases of new involvement in crimes of persons who will be released.

In the same letter, the State Police expresses readiness to provide groups of experts and buffers for the implementation of the process. About 600 prisoners are expected to leave their cells as a result of the amnesty bill.

Currently, the draft law has been approved by the government and is waiting to be approved by the parliament, to then enter into force and begin its effects.
